International Black Firefighters Museum, Baltimore MD

A nonprofit organization (African American Fire Fighters Historical Society) established to recognize the contributions of firefighters of color will restore an abandoned firehouse in Baltimore’s Oliver neighborhood into what they hope will become a major East Coast museum and tourist attraction that celebrates their mission. The Gaston Motel and Supper Club and the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Birmingham are two of the historic landmarks designated by President Obama. Plans are under way to renovate and incorporate these buildings as the foundation of Birmingham’s Civil Rights Institute / 4th Avenue Historic District creating a 4-block living history of the Civil Rights struggle of the 60s, and will be the cornerstones for the revitalization of this neighborhood. 2021: The New York Times and the Smithsonian Institute to begin tours of Birmingham’s historical district which will bring attention to the Gaston Hotel and its renovations. Read the complete article here

It was determined that the original structure was beyond repair, but remnants of the old building, such as bricks and marble, will be retained as part of the structure of the new building

This multi-use structure, one block from The White House, combines office space with ground-floor retail.

Acueducto de Ponce, Puerto Rico

Built in 1876, it was abandoned in 1928 and in much disrepair. Legislation was enacted in 2015 to declare it a historic structure and it was rebuilt.
